What is the difference between firewall settings in group policy for XP and Vista?

I run as few services as I can . When I try to turn on the firewall it tells me that its unable to, because one or more associated services are not running. What are these associated services? Please dont tell me that the Windows firewall is no good , and to junk it. That may be true, but it doesn’t answer my question.

Limewire and yahoo messenger is having trouble opening up and it gives me a little window where it says your firewall setting are preventing this program from accessing the interent or somthing like that…how do i get rid of it??

Have norton antivirus protection or whatever…im unable to find the setting to change the firewall status…help please!

Whenever I try to log into a server on a game I play called Astro Empires, my Netgear firewall has suddenly started to block it. This only started yesterday and it won’t let me post comments on myspace either. It doesn’t say how to stop it from blocking those pages and the Netgear website was hardly helpful.
Regarding the first answer, how do I ‘open’ my firewall?

I have a Belkin Wireless G router, but run Kerio firewall as well. I do realize NAT routers don’t require a software firewall, but what about wireless routers? If I don’t need one, I’d love to get those resources back.

i know the ip address to the st. Bernard software my school uses as a firewall, I could block websites or unblock websites but i need a username and password! I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Basically all the features are blocked on the computer. I can’t even get into the command prompt, or make one in notepad!

I’ve tried to access my Limewire Pro software but it shows a firewall prevention wall next to the connection status. I have set my Norton Software to recognize this and to allow custom limitations for access, but it still will not remove the firewall from Limewire.

What more can I do?
